Through spontaneous and often abstract art creations, the client was able to use the art therapy process to recall the root of her fear of death. Through her work with Consoli, the patient was able to access some of her repressed memories of the trauma that had caused her phobia and was able to return to her life successfully.

Robert Ault’s client, also a young woman, was able to draw how she felt at times and was eventually able to overcome her urges to injure herself through regular participation in art therapy sessions. Utilizing art therapy directives, Ault was able used to help his client get some distance from her feelings.
