Traditional suicide assessment tends to be a top-down information-gathering process where healthcare professionals use questionnaires and clinical interviews to determine patient suicide risk. In contrast, strengths-based suicide assessments emphasize provider-client collaboration and safety planning. In this webinar, we will briefly contrast suicide assessment from traditional and strengths-based perspectives, with an emphasis on practical strengths-based attitudes and strategies that participants can immediately integrate into their clinical work. Providers will learn at least three assessment tools they can use to broaden and deepen their understanding and application of suicide assessment procedures.
